It's Bell's "Let's Talk Day" so today, I am talking....

So this is me.  I was born to two amazing and wonderful parents.  I have 5 siblings - yes 5, and my mom and dad are still together.  I grew up in a middle class family and had a pretty great {average} life.  I've never gone hungry, or been left in the cold.  I went through the usual teenage crap and came out of it a happy, well balanced adult.  Or so one would think.  Yet for some reason, I suffer from anxiety.  Even in my mind it sounds silly, so I can imagine what you are thinking.  But at times in my life I have fainted, had chest pain and difficulty breathing, and been so dizzy that I had to pull my car over on the side of the road, or been unable to get my baby out of her crib because I couldn't walk down the stairs.

The first time the anxiety bubble burst was the day after this photo was taken.  I was training to become a hemodialysis nurse in Edmonton and staying part of the time at my sister's house, and part time at my home in Wetaskiwin.  My daughter Bailey was in kindergarten.  The first week of training was intense, then that weekend my little nephew Jaxen came into the world.  I didn't get a lot of rest because I was so excited about becoming an Auntie.  I went back to training on Monday morning and passed out about an hour into the day.  My instructor was convinced I was having a seizure, called an ambulance, and I ended up spending the rest of the day in the Emergency dept. at the U of A.  I went back to training the next day {much to my instructors dismay}.  By Friday, I was so dizzy thinking about the drive home that I almost passed out again.  By the time I got home I was having chest pain and difficulty breathing.  That weekend I was started on a course of anti-depressants to treat the anxiety I was experiencing.  That lasted a year, and I depended on those pills way more than I ever thought I would, and looking back am so thankful.  My marriage ended the following spring and I was able to be strong for my little girl.  I stopped the pills that summer and thought there was no looking back.  WRONG.

Fast forward a couple of years.  I had met my husband, and settled into a new life.  One that I always dreamed of, with family close by, and one in which above all I was going to be myself.  I loved it and was so happy.  Yet, one day, my two month old baby was downstairs in her crib fussing, and I was standing at the top of the stairs so dizzy I couldn't imagine walking down there.  Let alone, picking her up and carrying her anywhere.  I called one of my best friends who luckily lived close by.  She rushed over and I called my husband.  The only words I could speak to him were "You need to come home now."  We took our baby to her grandma and went to the Dr.  who promptly told me I needed to start medication.  I really didn't want to do that again.  Coming off of the medication was so hard.  I decided I was going to get through it without this time.  And for awhile I did.  I filled the year with exercise, training for a walk that meant the world to me.  I was sure I was free and clear.  But as the end of my year off came closer, I began to worry about going back to work and all that comes with that, and then my Grandpa got sick and it boiled over again.

If you are still reading this, thanks for hanging in there!! I will try to keep the rest as short as I can...

During the drive to and from Montana to get my Grandpa's illness sorted out and get him home, I started having to take Ativan to make it through the day.  I was constantly dizzy.  I finally ended up caving and going on a different medication to treat the anxiety.  It didn't work.  Then I had to switch medications.  During the past 5 years (yes, my baby turned 5 in November!) I have been on two different medications and had the dosages adjusted FOUR times.  Most of the time my symptoms are managed.  I can live my everyday life that I still love so much with few problems.  But my cup is full.  Its always almost full.  And as soon as anything extra comes along, it spills out over the sides and leaves me a mess.  Living with anxiety sucks.  The real kicker is, I have a wonderful life, why can't I just enjoy it?

I do my best everyday.

Desmond's First Birthday!

Who is that hiding under those balloons?

Dez was so funny at his party, I think he got tired of my camera in his face.  He started pulling the balloons over top of himself...
Auntie, leave me alone!

He's so good at sharing....

Love me those eyelashes....

And that silly grin.

Being an Auntie is just awesome.  Almost as good as being a mom.  Seriously.  I just love this little man so much.

My Funny Little Girl

This morning I hear Linneah talking to her Dad about needing help.  She so desperately wants to play this silly Teacup Piggy game on the Disney Junior site, and I crawled back into bed and asked her Dad to help her.

Tyler says "Do you have a username for this site?" and she responds "Yes, its Linneah! L...I....N...N...E...A...H..."

To which my clever husband responds "But you need a password..." And she so quickly responds "PLEASE.  That is the password."  Oh I love her so.

These photos were taken her first day of Kindergarten this past September.

Texture Tuesdays ~ Flowers

I haven't done one of these in awhile and today when I opened Kim's email and seen the texture, I just couldn't help myself!  Even just the name Reverie... Beautiful word, song, and blog by one of my idols!  And now, another one of my favorite textures from the oh so talented Kim Klassen.  So today I am linking up with her TT Linky Party.  I hope you enjoy!

Now that Summer is Here.... Happy Spring!!

So I totally neglect this blog... Not because I don't love it, but because between being a nurse, a mom and a photographer, my own fun photography projects always take a back seat!  After Christmas, I hardly took photos of anything besides the usual Easter, etc... And I have hardly done any editing of my own.  So today I decided to heck with it, I am going to post here a bit more!  So here is one of my own projects, my girls, wishing everyone a happy spring {2 days after summer begins...}  These were taken in April, well before there was any green around, and boy was it chilly that evening!

Days Ten Through Twelve of the 12 Days of Texture

Well I have been a very busy girl in the last few days, between working my 'day job', trying to get ready for Christmas and celebrating my husband's birthday it has been nutty!

Up First, Day 10...

I took these pictures of my friend's dog 'Sunshine' this summer.  Sunshine is the sweetest soul I have ever met, especially in one who has had a hard life.  Wen got Sunshine from the SPCA.  She had been rescued.  Found starving and alone, only about one year old.  Well now she has a fantastic home and you'd never guess that she had it rough.  She is so happy and loveable.  And her name was very appropriate, because she does tend to bring sunshine into our lives!!

Day 11....

I used my girls' Christmas pictures with Kim's day eleven texture 'Rejoice'(2).  I love this texture... Silent Night is my favorite Christmas carol.  I remember singing it when I was a little girl.  We had this old angel ornament that played the tune and I would listen to it over and over...

And last but not least, Day 12....
I layered a picture of one of my favorite old ornaments with today's texture 'Friday'.

I have enjoyed this Twelve Days of Texture so much!! Thank you Kim Klassen for all of your inspiration!  If any of readers are looking for some Photoshop How-to's, Kim has some excellent classes online.  And if you love textures like I do, join her Texture Lovin' List.

Linneah is Four! (and Day 9 of 12 Days of Textures)

So today I was trying to think of a musical quote, to go with our musical texture from Kim, called 'Lola'.  The only thing that ended up happening, is me singing "You are so beautiful to meeeeeee" in the tune of Alfalfa in my head all morning....  So I didn't get too far.  And its still playing!!  I settled on a brush (also one of Kim's creations!) because it fit what I wanted to say so perfectly.

In November my 'Baby' Linneah turned 4!! I can hardly believe it... She is getting so big, and everyday amazes me.  She makes me laugh, smile, and maybe even cry sometimes... She is smart, sweet, has a temper like her Daddy, and loves to dance and sing.  And her Grandpa is her 'best friend'.  She makes our lives much more fun (and interesting) than they used to be and I can't imagine life without her.
Mommy loves you Linneah!

Day Eight of the Twelve Days of Texture!

kimklassencafe

For today's texture 'Storm,' and the awesome brush that Kim made us to go along with it, I had to go back to my favorites pile.  I have dubbed this series of pictures (and others that go along with it) 'The Halkirk House'.  In the spring of this year, I spent a weekend with my family in the small town (its so small its not even a town!) where my great grandparents on my dad's side all settled when they came to Canada a century ago.  Just outside of town, there is this wonderful old place that has been empty for probably 45 years.  It is so beautiful there.  I went on the Sunday, all alone and relished in the property.  It was one of those rare moments that I was in Utopia...
Thanks again Kim, for another wonderful texture and brush.  You are amazing!

Day Seven of the Twelve Days of Texture

Thank you Kim, for sharing your story with us.  For sharing your art, your gift, and your heart.

Today's images come from the summer again.  On a trip to Banff with a good friend and fellow photographer, we stumbled upon a random field of daisies on the side of the road.  We stopped and each took our fair share of shots.  These are processed using one of today's magic textures "Wonderful Magic" at 30% in screen mode, one of my old favorites of Kim's called "Water Stained Frame" at 70% in soft light blend mode, and the Heroes brush is another one of Kim's great creations.

If you missed my brush from yesterday, you can download it HERE.

Thanks for dropping by, I hope you are enjoying my work!  To see the rest of the participants' in the Twelve Days of Texture click HERE.
